New low-cost Fibre Bridge
28 February 2003
A UK company has launched the first of a new range of high-capacity, low-cost products for the Data Transfer Market. Bridgeworks' TAMAR Fibre Channel Bridge will be of interest to both the larger corporate market and smaller enterprises, and facilitates te rapid transfer of veyr large amounts of data from legacy SCSI-based installations to SAN or NAS Fibre Channel data repositories and libraries.
The Tamar's innovative design features a single 2-Gigabit Fibre Channel port, permitting connectivity to point-to-point, arbitrated loop or switched fabric topologies. Despite very high levels of plug and play compatibility, the unit's comprehensive Java-based GUI permits access to the embedded API via the integral RS232 port. Together with native support for disk, tape, optical and changer devices, the unit comes with one or two SCSI Ultra 160 Wide ports, with LVD mode operation. SFP transceiver support includes copper, multi mode and single mode fibre up to 10 kms; and independent, full duplex Fibre Channel interface is also featured. The SCSI buses are LVD/SE, for automatic Fast, Narrow, Wide, Ultra-wise, Ultra 2 and Ultra 160 SCSI transmission. FCP-2 error recovery is also supported.
The Tamar, as with the entire Bridgeworks data transfer range, is distributed in the UK by CMS Peripherals. "What really impressed us," says Sean Bower, Enterprise Storage Manager at CMS, "was not just their highly competitive pricing but the high levels of performance and ease of installation, coupled with Uk design, manufacture and support facilities."
