BRIDGEWORKS DELIVERS THE iSCSI PROMISE
7 October 2004
Christchurch, 7 October 2004 - Until now the storage industry has tantalised users and in particular SMEs with promises of user-friendly iSCSI products at affordable prices. Today, UK-based enabler of cost-effective storage networking Bridgeworks has turned this into a reality with its new Potomac solutions family, a series of iSCSI bridges for SAN connectivity. Aimed at the most price-conscious users, the 'Small' from within the SME world, the entry-level bridge from the Potomac iSCSI family has a sustained performance capability of 45MB/s, is extremely easy to install, and with a list price of less than ££1,000, it provides the features and the level of performance realistically required for all but the most demanding end users at a truly affordable price.
Bridgeworks' Potomac solutions feature native support for disk, tape, and optical devices, hence they are ideal for the user wishing to maximise their return on investment in existing SCSI-based storage infrastructure or to connect new devices that currently do not support iSCSI connectivity to an IP Network.
The compact design means the bridges can be installed either on the desktop or in the server room without the need for specialised racking. With its 1 Gbe Ethernet, Ultra 160 SCSI interface and web-based management GUI, the Potomac solutions are easily installed and maintained by the traditional SME technical staff.
Bridgeworks' Potomac entry-level bridge will also be of interest to OEMs looking to increase their presence in the iSCSI space. The industry-leading small footprint (92mm x 95mm) and low power consumption (7.5w) in fact allow developers to integrate this unit into their products with minimum effort and cost.
'The size of a company does not always reflect the amount of data the organisation creates and stores; this means a ten-people law firm could have a substantial storage requirement without the IT budget of a larger player,' said David Trossell, Managing Director at Bridgeworks. 'At Bridgeworks we are turning storage into an affordable yet powerful business tool within everyone's financial reach. We enable our customers to benefit from high-speed technologies without the burden of the associated costs.'
' The management of storage is a major issue for organisations large and small, though SMEs often lack dedicated staff and the financial resources required to operate their storage systems effectively,' said Tony Lock, chief analyst at Bloor Research. 'The new Bridgeworks Potomac solutions are a welcome advance to assist customers make the best use of their storage infrastructure at affordable prices.'
